Hej, yes ofcourse they would allow it. If you can own a boat you can own a floating island. Good luck on your off-grid journey. I am also looking for a simpler life.

Take a tour of Spiral Island II and see Richie Sowa's dream turned into a reality for all to enjoy!

What is Spiral Island II? It is a tropical island paradise floating on over 100,000 recycled plastic bottles. It is about 20 meters (60 feet) in diameter, always growing and improving.
Here is the plan:

Invite your friends family and contacts, to join and become a Spiral Islander today and help spread the word about Rishi Sowa's Spiral Island II dream.

From 1998 to 2005, Rishi Sowa hand-built and lived on the first Spiral Island, which floated on over 300,000 recycled bottles! It was destroyed by Hurricane Emily in 2005. Rishi has now built an even better island at Isla Mujeres, Mexico, in a lagoon which offers shelter from bad weather! Rishi will continue to make improvements to the Island, so it will always be a eco-work-of-art in progress!

Just Met Rishi Last Night

Met Rishi last night at El Patio where he will be playing this Thurs, Fri & Sat. We had a nice talk about the island and what's been going on with him. He is just back from England to attend services for this father who passed.

One thing he and I talked about was his attempt to accomplish more with the island. He really needs some funds. For one, he lost his camera in England and needs it for getting the word out, plus there are lots of small projects in and around the island that need doin… Continue

Search for my new live-aboard cruiser sailboat begins

there's no pile of cash to make this happen, but there is the will, so I'll have to earn this new tool.

If there is a 25ft -33ft sailboat for sale in the next few months on the Canada side of Lake Ontario, then I hope to see the ad. any motivated sellers, please let me know. if it's not listed, I hope I hear about it.

wish me luck!

swirling extensions

Hiya cousin! Great to hear everything is on the up again. I want to come - one day perhaps - when my boat comes in....

Promotion of this site seems to be working. How about spawning swirling little islands for your visitors? Teepees and yurts sound a great idea.

Has your Chris been yet?

I'm almost finished with teaching but need the money still. Check out my website Richard -

MANY best wishes,

Simple living

For me the island seems really nice, I wonder if the swedish government would allow this? I don´t think so.

But my first step to off-grid living is in a small house that is off-grid. I am driving a blog to make me put down on writing the things I learn. When I have know enough I will build it, pay of my deps and be truly free.

Rishi Sowa

why build a floating Island?

My mission and whole reason for choosing to build a Floating organic Garden Island is to make a sustainable piece of land and live on it as self sufficiently as possible. Instead of "breaking land" in the traditional way, I have found a way to "make land" and sustain it on a base of reused plastic bottles. On "Spiral Island" in Puerto Aventuras I had reached a piont where I had tomatoes, melons, Papaya giving fruit along with a variety of herbs growing fine. I also had ducks and they were laying… Continue

First Day

Today I found out about Spiral Island.

I was using StumbleUpon, an awesome internet "channel-surfing" plug-in for Firefox, and I came across the Ripley's Believe It or Not episode with Spiral Island. I spend way too much of my time looking for places to escape to, and a self-sustaining island on the ocean is pretty much the best idea I have ever heard of.

I am engaged, so I ran this by my fiance. She seems open to it. I really want to go this summer ('08) and help finish the island.

...and be… Continue
